DESIGN

Sharp angles, deliberate choices

The wolf started as a sketch of what low-poly sculpture could be if we treated it like engineering, not decoration. We refined the polygon count until the silhouette read as "wolf" from across a room but revealed geometric complexity up close. Digital modeling that works both at distance and at arm's length.

THE EARS THAT TAUGHT US EVERYTHING The Howler's ears nearly ended the project before it started. They're tall, sharp, angled - everything that makes 3D printing difficult. Early prototypes looked wrong. The proportions felt off, the angles didn't match the head geometry, and worst of all, they couldn't handle the assembly forces without flexing. We tried thickening the base. Made them look heavy. We adjusted the angle. Created stress points that would fail over time.
Thirty-five prototype iterations. Thirty-five times we printed, assembled, evaluated, adjusted. We tested different thicknesses, recalculated how the ears distributed force when inserting into the head section. After so many tests, we finally picked the right PLA filament with just enough flex tolerance to handle insertion force without compromising stability.

Computational craft

This was our first time splitting a complex organic form into manufacturable parts. We learned how to calculate minimum wall thickness for structural integrity, how to balance aesthetic goals against material constraints. Every lesson from The Howler's development feeds into every piece we design now. This wolf trained us how to think.

Yours and yours alone

Every sculpture carries an engraved Unicity ID on the back. When you own piece #353, you're holding part of the production run that proved MODLD could exist. Not just a serial number - documentation that this came from the process we spent months perfecting.

Zero wall damage

The Howler forced us to invent MODLD WallSnap™. We needed a mounting solution as clean as the sculpture itself - no visible hardware, no wall damage, no complicated installation. Embedded steel spheres that click into the mount became our answer. We developed it for this wolf. Now it's how everything we make goes on walls.
